STOP & SHOP TO CLOSE STORES IN OUR JURISDICTION - ALL THOSE MEMBERS DISPLACED WILL BE OFFERED JOBS AT OTHER LOCATIONS

President Niccollai reported that a regional meeting was held at our offices today with executives from Stop & Shop and Local Unions representing members in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and the other New England states.

It has come to your Union’s attention today that certain members of ShopRite are receiving checks relating to a class action lawsuit that was filed several years ago regarding payout of overtime, Sunday premiums and holiday pay.  In order to correct the problem, the company hired an independent auditing firm that reviewed what amounts were due and owing to employees.  At this time, people will be receiving payments pursuant to the audit to correct any shortages.  Notwithstanding the fact that the checks bear the logo “Village Supermarkets,” they a

It has come to your Union’s attention that persons representing the management of Saker ShopRite are informing Part-Time Members that the Union is seeking to limit the work week to a maximum of thirty-four (34) hours.  That statement is totally false and a lie!

ACKNOWLEDGMENT OF STOP AND SHOP GUIDELINES

FOR ADDRESSING SHOPLIFTERS

The Union has been informed by Stop and Shop that it is their intention to disseminate an electronic policy restricting store associates from engagements and confrontations with alleged shoplifters.  Obviously, we have no objection to the policy on its face since our duties and responsibilities do not relate to security work or the detection and prevention of theft of merchandise by customers.
