IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM PRESIDENT JOHN T. NICCOLLAI TUESDAY AUGUST 18, 2026

STOP & SHOP (LONG ISLAND) CONTRACT NEGOTIATIONS UPDATE

President Niccollai reported today after conclusion of the third (3rd) negotiations session that we are experiencing  substantial difficulty with Stop & Shop in are attempts to achieve a new contract. Chief Spokesperson, Recorder John Niccollai III, commenced today’s session by reiterating what had transpired at the last meeting held on July 28th, 2026. Recorder Niccollai has admonished the company indicating that the Company proposals were riddled with concessions and givebacks and failed to address the needs of a Collective Bargaining Agreement for the future. Among the Company’s Counter Proposals are:

  1.    Lesser rates for newly hired employees.
  2.    Extending the time for the implementation of time and a half (1 ½) on Sunday and Holidays.
  3.    Restructuring of the vacation schedule.
  4.    Mandating both full-time and part-time members to co-pay for their healthcare.
  5.    Setting limits on the amount the Employer would pay towards healthcare coverage.
  6.    Replace our Defined Benefit Pension Plans for both full-time and part-time members with a Defined Contribution Plan.
  7.    The creation of new classifications in the Meat Department regarding cutting boneless meat at lower rates of pay.

Recorder Niccollai indicated that the concessions and givebacks remind him of the concessionary discussions at the beginning of the A&P death spiral which ultimately led to bankruptcy. Without question, members of the Stop & Shop (Long Island) workforce need to become vocal and let management know in no uncertain terms that we cannot permit our contract to be gutted by these insulting managerial proposals. Your voice is an invaluable asset in forcing management to get serious and commence good faith bargaining which will bring us to a contract that we have earned and deserve. A fourth (4th) negotiations session is scheduled for Tuesday August 25th, 2026, and we will keep our Brothers and Sisters fully informed.
