IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM PRESIDENT JOHN T. NICCOLLAI TUESDAY, JANUARY 13, 2026
ACME CONTRACT NEGOTIATIONS
Today, January 13, 2026, at 10:30 a.m., ACME Markets and Local 464A met for the second time in order to achieve a new collective bargaining agreement for the contract expiring on Feb 21, 2026.
The chief spokesperson for ACME Markets was Dan Dosenbach and the chief spokesperson for the Union was President John T. Niccollai. At this meeting, the company presented the Union with a list of counterproposals, which were reviewed in detail, and commented upon by both sides.
In reviewing the company counterproposals, the Union is extremely concerned by several positions presented as follows:
- The company emphatically stated the implementation of a weekly co-pay for healthcare of $100 per week for full-time employees and $50 per week for part-time employees;
- The company indicated there would be no increases in contributions to the medical benefit plan until the last year of the contract;
- The Pension Plan would currently be frozen and all future service would be recognized under a 401k plan rather than the present defined-benefit plan;
- The company failed to address any increase in wages for the full term of the agreement
Throughout the entire negotiating session, the company stressed the fact that they could not be compared to companies such as ShopRite and that the contract attained in the recent major negotiations was not doable or achievable in these negotiations.
Without question, the position of the company is untenable and unless the position of the company changes drastically, we are on a very troubling and dangerous path. Our brothers and sisters in ACME are extremely hard workers and we cannot allow their exceptional work ethic, dedication and loyalty to go unrecognized and unrewarded.
It would be extremely helpful to the Union negotiating committee if members approach management and let it be known that we will not permit our medical and pension programs to be destroyed. And, further, that we need to be rewarded for our hard work and dedication through meaningful wage increases for both full-time and part-time workers.
Another meeting is scheduled between the Union and the Company for Tuesday, January 27, 2026. With your continued loyalty and feedback to management at store level, we anticipate that the position of management should become more realistic. If the company remains firm in their positions, we need to prepare for the coming economic battle.
