IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM PRESIDENT JOHN T. NICCOLLAI TO SAKER SHOPRITE PART-TIME EMPLOYEES FRIDAY, MARCH 8, 2024

It has come to your Union’s attention that persons representing the management of Saker ShopRite are informing Part-Time Members that the Union is seeking to limit the work week to a maximum of thirty-four (34) hours.  That statement is totally false and a lie!

Our Collective Bargaining Agreement with ShopRite permits Part-Time Members to be scheduled for thirty-four (34) hours or more for up to eight (8) weeks before they become a full-time employee.  In addition, relief for vacation, extended illnesses and extenuating circumstances further extend the eight (8) week period.  We know that Saker is working that language to their advantage and then scheduling a cut-back week to avoid the full-time promotion and we are discussing that situation with our attorneys.

Obviously, your Union is constantly encouraging the promotion of workers to full-time but under no circumstances are we promoting the reduction of the part-time work week.  If any Member is being told by management that the Union is seeking to cut part-time hours, I would ask that you report the same to the Union office immediately so that we can take firm and appropriate action.

Please remember both our Full-Time and Part-Time Members are receiving among the highest wages, pensions and healthcare benefits anywhere within our industry.  Don’t allow misinformed sources to tell you otherwise!
