IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM PRESIDENT JOHN T. NICCOLLAI FRIDAY, JULY 12, 2024

LISTING OF STORE CLOSINGS IN LOCAL 464A JURISDICTION

This message is a follow-up to yesterday’s message regarding the meeting between Stop & Shop and all local unions in the region.

The company has now had an opportunity to notice the appropriate government agencies concerning the closing of stores within the region.  It is now appropriate for your Union to disseminate specific information about the closings.  As we know, this morning, the company and the Union met with members in the stores targeted for closing.  We are now listing below the 12 store locations in our jurisdiction.

Overall, there will be 32 store closings in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and other parts of New England.  These closings are scheduled to take effect during October and November of this calendar year.  The Union and the company will be working with the membership to develop an appropriate and orderly transition of the workforce in the stores affected to other locations.

  • THERE WILL BE NO LAYOFF OR TERMINATION OF FULL-TIME OR PART-TIME MEMBERS.
  • DEPARTMENT MANAGERS TRANSFERRED WILL KEEP THEIR RATE OF PAY IN THEIR NEW STORE.
  • HOURLY WAGES FOR FULL-TIME AND PART-TIME EMPLOYEES WILL NOT BE REDUCED.
  • NO FULL-TIME OR PART-TIME MEMBER WILL SUFFER ANY REDUCTION OF PENSION BENEFITS
  • NO FULL-TIME OR PART-TIME MEMBER WILL SUFFER ANY REDUCTION OF MEDICAL BENEFITS

Obviously, as we move forward, issues may well arise that have not been addressed by the company and the Union.  Rest assured that Local 464A has your back and we will address those issues.  We also wish to apprise the entire membership of the Union that we have already begun to inform our other good Union employers that the stores scheduled to close may well present a growth opportunity for them especially if they cut meat in those locations.
