PRESIDENT NICCOLLAI REPORTS ON UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS

FOR STRIKING WORKERS

UFCW President John T. Niccollai extends his deepest thanks to Governor Murphy for signing A-3861.  The Bill will provide unemployment benefits to workers immediately or within 30 days, dependent upon whether the work stoppage is a strike, lockout or non-compliance with the legislation by the Employer. 

This legislation is monumental in its importance to hardworking Union members in the State of New Jersey because it will prevent an Employer from economically forcing workers to end a strike because they have exhausted money for survival. 

Your Local Union has never been a proponent of precipitating immediate strikes in order to settle Labor disputes.  We view the strike as the last weapon in our arsenal.  It is encouraging to note that unfortunately if we must use this weapon, under this new legislation, an Employer will be hard-pressed to starve us into submission.

It should be noted that UFCW Local 464A strongly supported this legislation and, in addition to the Governor, we are indebted to Assembly Members DeAngelo, Giblin, Quijano and Senators Vitale and Gopal.
