COVID-19 UPDATE : HAZARD PAY

President Niccollai reported today that we have concluded the ads directed at our Supermarket customers run in major newspapers, concerning the wrongful reduction and/or termination of “hazard pay”.

Our campaign for justice will now swing over to social media and will be directed at our Employers, again concerning the wrongful reduction of and/or termination of “hazard pay”.

In addition, your Union is observing that many of our Employers are failing to abide by mandated safety practices and are exposing our membership to unsafe working conditions.  Union members must be guaranteed safe working conditions and should report violations of customers without masks, failure to observe social distancing and exceeding the new customer limitations to the appropriate local and state enforcement agencies when they occur.  Your Union will also be monitoring these safety violations closely.  We cannot compromise our health and our lives for Employers who may not have any concern for our welfare.

As previously reported, we have filed grievance notices against all our Supermarket Employers and are also proceeding in that arena.

The membership can be extremely helpful in letting family and friends know about our social media campaign.  Again, it is not our purpose to boycott our Employers but rather to let the Employers know what they are proposing and, in fact, doing is wrong in the middle of an escalating National Pandemic.
