A MESSAGE FROM PRESIDENT JOHN T. NICCOLLAI

TO ALL STOP & SHOP MEMBERS

APRIL 8, 2019

Dear Stop & Shop Brothers and Sisters:

UFCW Local 464A has been carefully monitoring the contract negotiations between the five Local Unions in New England representing Stop & Shop workers and the Company.  The contract has expired, with all Local Unions having been granted strike status from our International.  Another negotiating session has been scheduled for tomorrow, Tuesday, April 9th.  Unless progress is made at tomorrow’s meeting, we project there is a good likelihood that a strike will occur.

Pursuant to Articles 52B and 54 of our Collective Bargaining Agreements with Stop & Shop, we have placed the Company on notice that if primary picket lines are erected at store locations in our jurisdiction, that it is our intention, as a matter of law, to honor the picketing Union’s line.

We sincerely hope that Stop & Shop and the five New England Locals will resolve this matter without a work stoppage.  In the event that does not come to fruition, we have an obligation to protect the benefits, emoluments and working conditions of our Sister Locals.  If the Company is successful in New England, without question, we can anticipate similar concessions and givebacks in our next round of negotiations.
