IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM PRESIDENT JOHN T. NICCOLLAI TO SHOPRITE EMPLOYEES WEDNESDAY, APRIL 3, 2024

It has come to your Union’s attention today that certain members of ShopRite are receiving checks relating to a class action lawsuit that was filed several years ago regarding payout of overtime, Sunday premiums and holiday pay.  In order to correct the problem, the company hired an independent auditing firm that reviewed what amounts were due and owing to employees.  At this time, people will be receiving payments pursuant to the audit to correct any shortages.  Notwithstanding the fact that the checks bear the logo “Village Supermarkets,” they are being submitted to ShopRite employees who do not work for Village Supermarkets.  The checks are appropriate to be cashed even if the payee does not work for Village Supermarkets.

Since your Union is not privy to the payroll records of the company, we would recommend that if you have any questions, they be directed to your employer.  Obviously, if there are any remaining problems that your employer fails to address, the Union should be contacted.  Unlike the lottery, these checks are not life-altering and could be viewed as de minimus, but we should never refuse additional money for our hard work and dedication.
