The membership of Local 464A is nearly 20,000 strong and growing in New Jersey, New York and a part of Pennsylvania. We represent men and women who work hard and display professionalism everyday at their jobs in all the major food chains. These chains include: A & P, Food Basics, Foodtown, Food Emporium, Grand Union, Gristede's, I.G.A., Key Foods, Kings, Pathmark, Shop Rite, Stop & Shop and Waldbaums. We also represent many other individuals in service related businesses. Our members enjoy excellent wages, outstanding pensions, and all-inclusive medical benefits.

"Grocery Wars"

        In an article entitled, Grocery Wars: Supermarkets face new challenges as consumers shop around, Joan Verdon outlines that now, more so than ever, consumers are using the “shop-around” method of supermarket buying. Gone are the days where someone went to one store once a week for the families shopping in a one stop fashion.

Jim Perkins Named President of Safeway East

                On October 17, 2017, Jim Perkins was named President of Safeway’s Eastern Division. Albertsons, the parent company of several major supermarket chains including ACME Markets and Safeway, named their new Eastern Regional President, only thirteen months after naming Dan Valenzuela as President who reportedly "left the company to pursue other opportunities”, according to an article featured in Washington Business Journal.

ShopRite's Butchers "A Cut Above" and the Importance of Fresh Cut Beef

             Local supermarkets are constantly competing for the extra edge; one way some grocery stores are staying above the competition is with a wide variety of specialized meats cut on premises. ShopRite published an article in The Record, highlighting their stores meat department.

Annual Shop Stewards Seminar 2017

             On the brisk Tuesday morning of October 17th, John T. Niccollai, President of the Local 464A addressed the Shop Stewards of 2017’s annual Shop Stewards Seminar. “If you leave here today, knowing more than you did this morning, today will have been a success”, Niccollai prompted the Stewards to give each and every speaker and their presentation their undivided attention with the sole purpose being-- to learn.

Your Union has been informed of the Arbitrator’s Award in the matter involving Stop & Shop and the introduction of prepackaged meats.  In a word, we are “elated” with the decision which truly embraces the protections that we needed presently and going forward.
