ACME CONTRACT NEGOTIATIONS UPDATE
FROM PRESIDENT JOHN T. NICCOLLAI
OCTOBER 20, 2016
President Niccollai reported today that progress, as expected, is very slow in our ACME Store Negotiations.
Today concluded the second meeting of the Union Contract Negotiating Committee with the Company. At our first meeting, we had presented the Company with a list of our contract proposals collected at our Demands Meeting. Today’s meeting dealt exclusively with Company counter-proposals. Although the Company did acknowledge and submit wage increases and the restoration of some vacation time and benefit funding increases, the proposal as a whole did not even approach our needs.
The Committee and the Company will meet again on November 10th, at which time the Union will crystalize what it will take in order to put a new contract together. We will strongly emphasize our previous concessions, wage freeze and projected needs for the future.
Both sides completely understand that achieving a new Collective Bargaining Agreement will be extremely difficult. A result will only be achieved through comprehensive negotiations, and the recognition by all parties that we must reach an agreement to avert disaster.
Our Brothers and Sisters of ACME can help your Union Officers and Committee Members by letting the Company know we will not settle for less than what we truly deserve and, if necessary, will strike to reach that result.
We will continue to keep you informed as new events occur.
